Otherwise you could be wasting a huge amount of time and money, when a few tweaks or changes in your approach might make a big difference.
As Henry Ford said, 'If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got'.
Taking a non-attached and objective look at your business, perhaps with the help of trusted mentor or colleague, will keep you heading in a more profitable and enjoyable direction.
I know it's not necessarily easy, especially when you're in the thick of it, but if you want to keep growing your business then reviewing and taking action on the following will help you ride the waves of your business and stay on top of your game...
1. Are you clear who your audience is and do you know the problems/challenges they are facing? Action: revisit and update your ideal client profile and spend time getting to know what issues they are facing now.
2. Are there enough clients who will pay for your services/products? Do you need to target new customers or niches? Action: if your target market really doesn't have the budget to pay for your service then it may be time to focus on another group; rather than discounting your fees.
3. What solutions are you offering? Are these presented or packaged in a way that clients' want or need? Action: if you mainly work one to one with clients open up other more affordable ways for people to experience your work such as on line programmes, seminars, workbooks and workshops.
4. Is your marketing message distinct and engaging? Action: with so many people offering similar services it pays to work on your marketing message so that you stand out from the crowd. Write out several different versions and ask for feedback from a client, colleague or mentor.
5. Do you stay in touch with the trends in your industry/profession and consumer preferences? What's changing and how will this impact you? Action: each week set time aside for market research which could range from reading publications, books and on line articles and listening to audio recordings.
6. Are you marketing consistently? What's working and what can you let go of? Action: make a list of all the marketing you do and assess what works, what you can do more consistently and what you can stop doing.
7. Do you need to review your pricing strategy? Action: if you've not reviewed your pricing for over a year then even small changes could make a difference to your profitability.
8. Is it time to update your products and services to give them the 'wow' factor and make them more desirable? Action: every day your experience and knowledge is increasing - make sure this is reflected in what you deliver. Revise and update your programmes and product literature and add in some additional bonuses or surprise gifts.
9. Are you visible? Do enough people know about you and what you offer? Action: commit to engaging and forming relationships with more people daily.
10. People buy people - are you working on your own personal development? Your business will grow to the extent that you grow. Action: spend at least 30 minutes a day reading a book, or an article or watching a video. It'll help to keep you inspired and motivated!
Where your business is concerned don't take a 'head in the sand' approach, (even when things are going well) because life keeps changing. By experimenting and testing things out you could find that business turns around or you take yourself to the next level of success.
Wouldn't that be amazing!
