Hello Theo
Imagine this... you’ve got a business, you build a website, you put your social media plan into action... but nothing much happens. Sound familiar?
Of course, it’s the same story that I hear from business owners around the country day in and day out. We do out best, and we employ others to do THEIR best – but still, the results that we can are less than impressive.
Have you ever felt like that? I’d lay odds on that 1 out of every 3 people reading this today feel EXACTLY like that – right now!
However, there are things that you can do about it, and some of these things are things that you can “check out” yourself without having to engage someone like me to do it for you.
Take a look at my first tip for you -
1. Make sure that the first 10 seconds count.
You’ve heard it before, the first 10 seconds in any meeting are the most important. It’s just the same with your website. The colours that you use, the size and relevancy of your graphics, text and links all lead towards your impact presentation. When a new prospect lands on your site they have to know within 10 seconds whether or not they have arrived in the right place. There can be no indecision here – they must know to leave or stay. Make it obvious to them.
Google says that you should really be aiming for your pages to load within 2 seconds – yeah, I know! But this is incredibly important for the user experience. My second power tip is -
2. Avoid heavy loading and fancy graphics.
It follows a similar theme to the above note, but this point applies specifically to your website’s load time. This is failure that most businesses are aware of, but few take action on. How fast does your site load for you? Do all your visitors have high speed connections? The guideline is 8 seconds on a dialup modem (2 seconds on high speed), any longer and you’re playing double jeopardy. Above, avoid the temptation to make your landing page some huge logo image or flash presentation. More people than you think don’t want this – in fact, they don’t care at all what your logo looks like, they want to know what’s in it for them.
These two ‘basic’ website tips can count for more than 80% of success (or failure)!
Take a look at this free tool at Pingdom.com http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ . It will allow you to check the load time speed of your site. This is something you can easily do yourself, though you may need help getting the numbers down if they’re too high.
I’ve got 8 more power tips for you on my blog post “Website Tips for Building a Strong Lead Generation Website”. Take a look and learn more about how you can improve you sales funnel, your free offer, and how to get your customers to stick around longer.
