Getting Traffic from Authority Sites

Good Morning Theo

There’s been a lot of buzz online and in social media circles lately about the latest video from Google’s ‘go to guy’ Matt Cutts.  In his video he talks about the decay and decline of guest blogging for SEO. He even goes so far as to “call it” as DEAD!.

You can read his original Blog post here: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/guest-blogging/

Let me add to this, I agree 100%! The way in which people have been trying to ‘game the system’ is appalling and Google has now drawn the line... spam content, crap content, even low quality content will no longer be considered ‘acceptable’ in Google Rankings. As far as I’m concerned, it’s about time!!

So then, what’s to be done about it.

(1) You absolutely MUST focus on writing high quality content for your own website.

(2) If you’re going to author guest posts for other websites (an amazing way of getting high quality traffic) you have to FORGET about doing it for SEO purposes (the link) and do it for the customers who are going to read it.

Which means -

a. You have to become more selective about which websites you want to write for (guest blog with), and
b. You’re going to have to spend more time doing it.

Doesn’t sound like the ideal mix does it?

But it is – and if you DO IT RIGHT the rewards from quality, QUALIFIED customers that come your way and the dollars that they spend with you will far outweigh the time taken to make it happen.

Here are my Top 6 Tips for writing quality guest posts that get traffic (and content for your own site for that matter!).

1. Stop thinking about targeting keywords and start thinking about targeting topics.

2. Choose about ‘half-a-dozen’ topics (all related) and turn these into sub-headings to structure your article.

3. Each of these sub-headings become a mini-article in themselves. Format them for easy reading (good spacing, bullet points,  images etc).

4. Use external references to relevant sources and authority ‘quotes’.

5. Use internal links to relevant content for the website that you’re writing for.

6. When writing for another website, always create a custom landing page with a strong call to action (such as a ‘download report’ subscription) in your signature to not only capture referred visitors but to give you the best possible chance of converting them too.

It’s a simple process that can be easily followed... and works!
