A chapter in Brene Brown's book, The Gifts of Imperfection, caught my attention, last night. It was about cultivating creativity and letting go of comparison.
She writes "It's easy to see how difficult it is to make time for important things such as creativity, gratitude, joy and authenticity where we're spending enormous amounts of energy conforming and competing"
And she goes on to say that "Creativity, which is the expression of our originality, helps us to stay mindful that what we bring to the world is completely original and cannot be compared"
I believe this is so important for our wellbeing (especially at this time of year!).
When we allow ourselves to fully express who we are and what we do, we are being unique and meaningful in our work and our lives.
I notice how much my energy and enthusiasm soars when I attend art classes, wander through museums and galleries or just take some photographs.
This week I made my first Christmas Wreath at a workshop organised by Fiona who owns an eco-friendly flower business called Daisy Works.
All sorts of thoughts went through my mind about not being good enough but in the end I became completely absorbed and didn't worry about comparing myself with everyone else making their own beautiful, unique wreaths.
Next year I plan to take more risks, be imperfect and vulnerable, while learning something new!
