Whether you work for yourself or for someone else, many of us find it incredibly difficult to unplug from work.
And if you provide a service based business you probably get used to putting the needs of others first, which means that you can lose touch with what's important for you.
This level of people pleasing, whether at home or work, often leads to exhaustion and burnout.
If this resonates with you then Summer can be a great opportunity to build in some time to relax a little, enjoy life and most importantly gain a new perspective!
Here are 6 tips or reminders to help prioritise your own regular self-care: this is critical for letting go of feelings of being 'hard done by' or life being difficult or a struggle
#1 Get physical treatments and engage in bodywork: vital for rejuvenating your physical and emotional well-being, especially if you work face to face with others. It will release any stored stress, tiredness and emotional issues as well as increasing your body awareness and self-esteem.
#2 Practise saying NO: to demanding friends and relationships. When stepping up in a professional role you may notice your tolerance for 'energy drains' dwindles. Pay attention to this! As a service provider you may notice you have less desire to be an unpaid one on your days off!
#3 Increase fun and pleasure in your life: Seek out new comedies, good films, spend time dancing or singing to your favourite song, hang out with friends that make you laugh - joy and happiness are both infectious and restorative.
#4 Make sure you're not doing personal development 7 days a week: Lots of us who are interested in self-help just can't give ourselves a break from it. Remember there is a whole world out there!
#5 Spend time in nature: Nature restores and reminds us of the cycles of life. A short walk in woods or by water returns even very addled minds to a state of peace and calm. Taking yourself outside and into nature is excellent for when you can't see a way forward. Often miraculous solutions and new approaches materialise in fresh air.
#6 Explore creativity and activities which help you to just 'be': Being a business owner is exciting but also very demanding. By allowing yourself to explore your creativity - whether in words, the kitchen, the canvas or the dance floor - you will be giving your soul deep nourishment, and this will also remind you that you are much more than your business.
Know that by investing in YOU and your self-care that you are destined for success!
