How to Build Your Business (4 Steps)

Last week I had someone from the US contact me and ask if I would help them build their web design business in their local sector. Being that I spent so many years selling to the US with my training programs I still get people contacting me asking for additional help – however, as  lifestyle choice a few years back I decided that I would ‘scale back’ and just focus on Australia (#Business Tip No. 1)

However, that’s not to say that I can’t offer some friendly advice... and once written I saw that it had a practical application for ANY business type; which is why I’m reprinting it here. Have a look, and ask yourself – how could you apply these 4 steps to your own business (and yes, these are things that I do in mine).

 

Good Morning John,

I don't do consulting to that part of the world anymore, but let me give you a few 'steps' that could help you. Above all else, its about serving the customer, NOT making money from them (a shift in attitude for some).

#1. Make sure that YOUR online profile is awesome. No one is going to trust you with theirs unless yours is brilliant.

That means your website, your social media, your Youtube Channel.... everything.

#2. Set up three different 'web development' packages. Price them low, medium, and high. Make sure all have awesome value for the investment.

#3. Always include FACE TO FACE contact with your clients; it means more to them than you can possibly imagine (and helps reduce communication errors).

#4. When the job is done, offer them a 'traffic consultation'... go back and see them and help them develop a plan to get traffic to their site. Don't be so concerned with their money as you are with their success.

And remember always that if you help them GROW their business, your will grow exponentially.

[Real Coaching Solutions] How to create irresistible offers

One of my favourite quotes by Steve Martin is 'be so good they can't ignore you'.  I expect we all aim for this in our work. 

 

However, as there are growing numbers of entrepreneurs and small businesses (there is a lot of choice out there!) I'm always thinking about what else will make offers and services even more irresistible to potential clients.

 

Because the advantage of irresistible offers is that they help you...

 

1. Stand out from the crowd. Rather than being bland you'll be known for something special

2. Increase the likelihood of referrals as your offer will be remembered more easily

3. Speed up the response rate because clients can self-select as you will be clearer in your message

4. Improve your confidence in marketing and attracting clients.  When you step into and embrace more of who you are and what you offer, you'll start to generate sales with less effort and more ease

 

Here are a few things on my checklist.  What else would you include? ...

 

In writing and speaking don't be afraid to show your personality.  It will attract those who resonate with your particular style and help others connect with you as an individual

 

Package up your offer in a unique way which reflects your own tried and tested formula.  It adds more credibility if you've figured out what has worked for you before offering it to others.  Sharing your story might inspire others to take action.

 

Provide a complete solution with all the information in one place.  Even if you personally can't deliver every element then maybe you can help your clients access relevant resources, through you, so they don't have chase around checking out suppliers

 

Include unexpected extras.  For example a quick start guide, a relevant book, articles, a small gift or sample, a Video/CD/audio

 

Be known for exceptional and personal customer service, from start to finish.  This means managing expectations and being available and responsive to your clients (within reason of course!). 

 

Finally, create space for personal reflection and development to enable intuition and creativity to work its magic.  Taking action is essential but needs to be balanced with allowing and receiving, otherwise it can turn into 'off putting' energies of overwhelm and exhaustion.
