What I've learned over the years is that one of the biggest obstacles to success has usually been myself!
In my corporate roles I used to look at other people, with the same experience and qualifications, climb the ladder much faster than me.....and wonder WHY them?
In business it's tempting to make comparisons, explain things away and find excuses - they're better at selling, speaking, consulting etc.
But in reality the ones that get ahead in whatever profession do share some or all of these success traits...
They've overcome any resistance to change and making things happen. If you're feeling blocked or stuck around achieving your goals it may be because of an underlying level of resistance. Perhaps you need to let go of old beliefs and habits, increase your fees, change your client base or master technology.
They're willing to try new things and don't listen to naysayers who say it can't work. Other people have different opinions based on their own values, experiences and view of the world. Take on board what is useful and then trust your intuition about what is right for you.
They focus on personal development by attending workshops/programmes, reading books and setting time aside for personal reflection. As we grow our capability and skills we start to attract new opportunities at
that level.
They find the money to invest in taking themselves and their businesses to the next level.
They are persistent and consistent in their approach, refining as they go along. Simple daily practices, like compound interest, accumulate over time. Suddenly those incremental steps will tip the balance and your momentum will accelerate. In his book 'The Compound Effect', Darren Hardy explains how little daily decisions can lead you to the life you desire.
They rarely procrastinate. Business likes speed so they don't wait for everything to be perfect before launching a new idea or service. Otherwise someone else will definitely get there first!
They create structures to attract and retain money. By opening up different ways for people to work with you and systems to establish a strong relationship with your finances, money will naturally start to flow towards you.
They are open to receiving support whether this is through family, friends, colleagues, mentors or coaches. At work I was often afraid of asking for help in case it was a sign of weakness or failure. As a result I made more mistakes and it took me longer to achieve results!
